Talliston Writer in Residence 2016-2017
Emma Vandore is from Edinburgh and lives with her family in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. She runs creative writing workshops at Sawbridge Words, her local independent bookstore. A former foreign correspondent for the Associated Press, she now writes in a log cabin in her garden, telling stories for people and organisations across the world through her consultancy Kagisha Ltd.
Her published work includes journalism, non-fiction and academic writing, which has appeared in a variety of UK and overseas publications from The Guardian to the New York Times. In fifteen years of journalism, reporting from over 30 countries on six continents, Emma gathered plenty of writing material for her novel writing career.
Her fiction work was first recognised by the WH Smith Young Writers competition, and more recently by the Arts Council, who is funding the novel she is currently working on: And, Breathe. In 2015, Emma graduated from the Faber Academy and in 2016 she won the Norwich Writers’ Centre Escalator Competition.
The Creative Team
Writer in Residence
Become a creative part of the house and gardens.
At the heart of Talliston House & Gardens' labyrinth of inspirational locations, times and places is a showcase of the power of our imagination – and the unlocking of the secret that lies within all of us. Talliston is committed to continuing that journey, to inspire, support and encourage people to pursue creative, fulfilling lives – and in this new chapter, we have created a series of residencies to further that mission.
The Talliston Writer-in-Residence programme was established to provide resources for a writer over the course of one almanack year (October to October). It sets out to use Talliston’s interiors to motivate and encourage writers, providing an inspirational space to write, research and create. Along with the Artist-in-Residence and Artisan-in-Residence roles, the Writer-in-Residence will be joining a community committed to creative excellence.
